Dear 5N1,WHat does 5N1 mean to you? To me, you are a class that will achieve, you are a class that will gain the respect of every person around you. We will work hard together, as one committed and persevering group of people. My wish and my hope is for all of you to jump on board, and let's run the race together. You've successfully completed the 4N marathon, and now, it is time for the 5N hurdle. We can do it! My new year wish for the class, is that we will all have a memorable, meaningful, and successful year ahead! Love, Ms Chin Thursday, January 1, 2009
Happy 2009, everyone! Can't believe this blog has been up for about 2 years? :) Great job, Herdawatie and all those who regularly tag and let your presence be known! It's a great way to keep the class connected! This year is a new year indeed. All of us have entered change, whether it be the classmates that surround you, or the very school itself! To those who have graduated and have gone to a new learning institution, take care and enjoy your studies and new-found friends! This will be a very exciting chapter of your new life! Do continue to update us about how you are doing through the blog, or even drop by... on Teachers' Day? :) To those who have opted to move on to Sec 5, we will go through this year together again. Whether you are here by choice or you were forced to come to Sec 5, let's make a conscious effort to make this year count. Remember our EL Camps' theme? "WE WILL MAKE IT".. and this theme will be the foundation of your Sec 5 journey ahead. Will we all make it this time round? All that matters is what you choose to do in the next year! See you back in school real soon! Ms Chin *like The Terminator, I'm back!* :P Thursday, December 18, 2008

I think many of us were looking forward to the class gathering. It was to be a time when we could catch up with one another. However, the weather showed no mercy that day and only relented about 630pm. A slight drizzle still continued. I will take the opportunity to say that I am very disappointed with some of the comments made by some members of the class that day. "Cher, you hate us right? Choose this day with the rain!" "See! I told you we should have had a chalet!" " I paid $5 for this??" "Where are the drinks? Give us money to go buy more drinks!" My reply to this? I don't know what you've learnt in Geography lessons, but I didn't know I had power over the weather conditions. I had to go through a lot of admin trouble to book the pit, go down to make the payment, source for the best BBQ vendor, liaise with the BBQ vendor, arrange for the most convenient pick-up location, try to solve the "rain" problem, and ensure everyone managed to see some kind of BBQ going so that everything would not go to waste. It was very overwhelming. Lucky there was a small group of people who did not utter a single word of complain and tried their best to make everyone happy. Do you think the BBQ food miraculously appeared out of nowhere, no cost, IN THE POURING RAIN? Your friends had to carry the things IN THE RAIN. Your friends had to start the fire IN THE RAIN. When the food was running low, some got your friends to buy extra food BUT IT WAS ONLY FOR YOURSELVES, NOT TO SHARE WITH THE REST. My idea of "one class" shattered at that moment. All the food ordered and bought was for THE CLASS. It is up to you to decide how much food and drinks you are going to consume. I catered for 3o people (being told only 22 are coming). You know very well if you took more so that others had less to eat. Some of you showed up with other people and some did not even bother to greet your teacher. I did not plan this BBQ for you to come and show off to everyone that you have a boy/girl friend. I planned this so you could spend time interacting with each other. I have failed as your teacher because I am sending people into society who have no civic sense at all. I asked one of you to pick up a plastic bag that he purposely threw on the floor and he not only ignored me, he acted as if it was his given right to litter. I wish I could also just show up, and expect everything to be perfect, and then complain when something doesn't go right. Thanks to those who helped out, organised the turn-up, thanks to those who started the fire, those who stood before the fire to cook, those who cleaned up, those who spent time chatting with me and your classmates. I sincerely appreciate and remember those who helped out in any way that day. Thank you :) Tuesday, December 2, 2008
